Want to travel but don’t know where to go? Bill Clevlen, author of “100 Things to Do in America Before You Die,” will provide some direction when he visits the Breese Public Library, 550 N. 3rd St., at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

“We are so fortunate to host a nationally-known author like Bill Clevlen,” said Library Director Angie Chute. “And what better time than summer – the busiest travel season of the year – to have someone provide some tips on where to go, what to do and how to have fun along the way.”

According to Clevlen’s publisher, Reedy Press, the book is more than a list of places to visit but a catalog of uniquely American experiences. From sipping Southern sweet tea to standing where the Wright Brothers tested their first “flying machine,” each experience makes up an important piece of our American story.

Featured in the book is a mix of history, entertainment, art, food and sports, along with trivia questions on each page.

“It was written to inspire road trips across the country,” a Reedy Press spokesperson said. “Mountains, museums, fried chicken, small towns and even the world’s tallest mailbox await you.”

Based in St. Louis, Clevlen is a travel journalist, broadcaster and freelance writer and a frequent guest speaker and radio correspondent highlighting road trip ideas and uplifting American stories.

He hosts a weekly podcast, “Rediscover America,” and also shares positive travel stories and videos on his website, www.billontheroad.com.

Chute is looking forward to the presentation.

“Bill is a wonderful speaker and has some great stories to tell,” she said. “If you’re a frequent traveler or more of the armchair variety, you’ll enjoy his presentation.”

The presentation is free and open to all ages. For more information, contact Breese Public Library at (618) 526-7361.
